Tall Oil Fatty Acids (TOFA, CAS No.: 61790-12-3) is a natural product extracted from pine trees. It primarily consists of oleic acid, linoleic acid, and their isomers, with small amounts of rosin acids and unsaponifiable matter. TOFA appears as a light yellow liquid with a mild odor, a density of approximately 0.91 g/cm³, a melting point of about 8°C, and a flash point of around 204°C.
Coatings and Inks: TOFA is used in the production of alkyd and epoxy resins, widely applied in the coatings and inks industry to provide excellent gloss, adhesion, and durability.
Metalworking Fluids: As a lubricant and corrosion inhibitor, TOFA effectively reduces friction and prevents oxidation and corrosion of metal surfaces in metalworking fluids.
Soaps and Detergents: TOFA is used in soap and detergent production, offering good foaming properties and effective cleaning performance.
Adhesives and Plasticizers: TOFA serves as a raw material in the production of adhesives and plasticizers, enhancing product flexibility and adhesion.
Oilfield Chemicals: TOFA is used in the formulation of oilfield chemicals, such as drilling fluids and oil recovery agents, to improve drilling efficiency and oil recovery rates.
In summary, Tall Oil Fatty Acids is a versatile and cost-effective natural fatty acid widely applied in coatings, metal processing, detergents, adhesives, and other industries, making it a valuable industrial material.
